I’m learning about Social Networking/Social Media through a 2-part class at AssistU (www.assistu.com). In doing the fieldwork and the more I look for information, the more I find.
Check out this video: http://tinyurl.com/5r9wn7. It explains Social Networking in an easy to understand way and helped me to “get it”. Thanks Perry Belcher!
What I’ve come away with is that Twitter (a social networking site) is like attending a big party and just socializing. I’ve never been someone to attend parties and really disliked in-person business networking events, mainly because I thought that no one would be interested in what I had to say and I just didn’t know how to start a conversation. I’m not alone in that thought and just like with creating a blog and posting my first blog post, I’ve had to step out and step up.
I’ve learned to just be myself and talk about stuff I’m interested in. I’ve talked about what I’m doing in that moment, my animals, and yes, I’ve talked a bit about my biz.
When I started my blog, I wasn’t sure what to write about, but having this new information helps me to know that I can write about almost anything I want. I just want people to get to know who I am – my interests, what makes me tick, etc., and my blog is a really good way to express myself.
Using Twitter is helping me to step out of my comfort zone and I'm enjoying myself! :)
Will this help me in my Virtual Assistant practice? I’m guessing in a round-about way, yes.
I’m making connections with some really interesting people along the way and who knows, at some point those individuals may have a need or know someone who does. When that time comes, they might just remember me.
Here is another video/webinar that talks about Twitter and LinkedIn and how you can use both in your business. http://cashinyourcontacts.com/?p=560

Personally, I like Twitter the best because, to me, it’s the easiest to use and where I’m able to interact with my followers.
Do you have a favorite?
Let me hear from you on the subject.
